FAQs

What does Parent Coordinator do?

A Parenting Coordinator is a neutral helper chosen by the court (or agreed upon by parents) to make co-parenting easier when there’s a lot of conflict.

Their role is to:

  • Help parents communicate more calmly and clearly.

  • Keep the focus on what’s best for the child.

  • Work through everyday disagreements about schedules, activities, and routines.

  • Make sure the parenting plan or court orders are being followed.

  • Provide tools and guidance to support healthier co-parenting.

What they don’t do:

  • They cannot change custody or child support.

  • They don’t take sides or make big legal decisions.

Think of a Parenting Coordinator as a guide who helps parents work together, so children can grow up with less conflict and more stability.

What does a Parent Facilitator do?

The facilitator's duties are similar to those of a coordinator, plus the additional function of monitoring compliance with court orders

  1. The facilitator also submits written reports, though they cannot recommend changes to conservatorship or visitation rights;

  2. Critically, communications with a parenting facilitator are not confidential: any participant’s communication may be disclosed in judicial or administrative proceedings and the facilitator may be required to testify

  3. Records and communications are not considered privileged and can be requested by parties or attorneys—documents are not protected under mental health confidentiality laws

My parent partner and I are separating, can I hire you to be my parent coordinator?

In order to work in an official “Parent Coordinator/Parent Facilitator” capacity there must be an order by the court.

Can I work with you without involving my co-parent?

Maybe, but in this case, we would work together in a parenting coach relationship. Generally I find it is most effective to involve all parents in the process, but each case is unique. I can provide education and support but as a Parent Coach, your session would be confidential and there would not be any communication with the court.

Do you provide therapy?

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, but this is NOT a therapeutic intervention. All therapeutic services are provided in person at Inspiration Ranch. If you are interested in individual therapy for yourself or your child, please contact Justine Daniel at thecottage@inspirationranch.org for more information or to make an appointment.
